ABOUT NUB AND OUR HISTORY

Keeping in step with the rapidly increasing demand for higher education, the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh passed the Private Universities Act in 1992 which has been revised and replaced by Private University Act 2010. Following the 1992 the Act, Bangladesh witnessed a sudden flux of private universities with the promise to provide higher education to students that will be at par with global standards.

In 2002, a group of eminent academics recognized this exponential increase in demand and established Northern University Bangladesh on 17 October in order to bring quality education within the reach of students with modest economic means. Sponsored and founded by International Business Agriculture & Technology (IBAT) Trust now known as NUB Trust (NUBT), a registered, non-political, non-profit voluntary organization, NUB made its foray in to the field of higher education and established itself as a center for excellence.

Presently Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) has 5 Faculties situated within the Dhaka Metropolitan city with its Permanent Campus near Haji camp at Ashkona, Dakshin Khan. NUB has affiliations & accreditation's with international institutions in its effort to provide education that can provide students with all the tools needed to face the challenges in any chosen career from any specialized field & the global industry. NUB has been authorized to confer degrees and certificates in all branches of knowledge including Business, Arts & Humanities, Science and Engineering, Law, Pharmacy and Public Health within the levels that includes Bachelors, Masters & is in the process of acquiring the level of M Phil & Ph. D. in collaboration with foreign universities.

Northern University Bangladesh is now owned and managed by a group of academics under the illustrious and reputable banner of NUB Trust, who intend to not only provide higher education to the deserving students with moderate means but also aims to mold individuals with a specific skill set along with the value of social responsibility. Northern University Bangladesh believes in building a better future for the citizens of Bangladesh by enhancing its socio-economic empowerment.

                        চার অক্ষরে স্ট্রোকের লক্ষণ জানুন

স্ট্রোক বা পক্ষাঘাতগ্রস্ত বয়স্ক নারী–পুরুষকে শয্যাশায়ী করে ফেলে। শুধু বয়স্ক নয়, কখনো কখনো অপেক্ষাকৃত কম বয়সী ব্যক্তিরাও স্ট্রোকে আক্রান্ত হন এবং কর্মক্ষমতা হারান।

মস্তিষ্কে রক্ত চলাচলে ব্যাঘাত ঘটলে বা কখনো রক্তনালি ফেটে গিয়ে রক্ত জমাট বেঁধে গেলে মস্তিষ্কের কোনো অংশের কোষে যে স্থায়ী ক্ষতি হয়ে যায়, সেটাই স্ট্রোক। উচ্চ রক্তচাপ, ডায়াবেটিস, রক্তে চর্বির আধিক্য, ধূমপান ইত্যাদি স্ট্রোকের ঝুঁকি বাড়ায়। সময়মতো স্ট্রোকের লক্ষণগুলো বুঝতে পারলে ও দ্রুত চিকিৎসা নিলে ক্ষতিকর দিকগুলো অনেকটাই এড়ানো যায়। স্ট্রোকের উপসর্গ বুঝতে ‘ফাস্ট’ শব্দটি ব্যবহার করা হয়। ইংরেজি বর্ণমালার চার অক্ষরের ফাস্ট মানে হলো:

এফ-(ফেস): মুখের একদিক বেঁকে যাওয়া বা ঝুলে যাওয়া।

এ (আর্ম): কোনো হাত ঝুলে পড়া বা হাত নাড়াতে না পারা বা হাতের শক্তি কম মনে হওয়া।

এস (স্পিচ): কথা জড়িয়ে যাওয়া বা কথা বলতে অপারগতা।

টি (টাইম): ওপরের উপসর্গগুলো টের পেলে দেরি না করে সময়মতো চিকিৎসকের সাহায্য নিন।

ফাস্ট–এর বাইরে আরও কিছু উপসর্গ স্ট্রোক বুঝতে সাহায্য করে। যেমন মাথাব্যথা, মাথা ঘোরা, মাথা হালকা বোধ হওয়া, হাঁটতে গিয়ে ভারসাম্যহীন মনে হওয়া, দৃষ্টিতে সমস্যা, ভুল কথা বলা বা চেতনা লুপ্ত হওয়া। কখনো বমিও হতে পারে। হঠাৎ রক্তচাপ অনেক বেশি বেড়ে যেতে পারে। স্ট্রোকের পর অনেকের খাবার গ্রহণে সমস্যা হয়, খাবার গিলতে গিয়ে গলায় আটকে যায় বা বিষম খান। খাবার বা পানি মুখের কাছ থেকে গড়িয়ে পড়তে পারে।

স্ট্রোক প্রতিরোধ করতে মধ্যবয়স থেকেই সচেতনতা দরকার। নিয়মিত নিজের রক্তচাপ মাপুন। রক্তচাপ বেশি থাকলে তা নিয়ন্ত্রণ করুন। রক্তের শর্করা ও চর্বি নিয়ন্ত্রণে রাখুন। ধূমপান বর্জন করুন। বেশি করে তাজা শাকসবজি ও ফলমূল খান। ওজন ঠিক রাখুন। খাবার লবণ কমিয়ে দিন। স্ট্রোক আপনার কর্মমুখর জীবনকে হঠাৎ করেই স্থবির করে দিতে পারে। তাই এখনই সচেতন হোন।

           মেধা আর চেষ্টার জোরে কোটিপতি

সকালবেলা মায়ের হাতের ভাত খেয়ে কলেজে যেতাম। কলেজে দুটি শিঙাড়া খেয়ে সারা দিন কাটাতে হতো। সবশেষে রাতে বাসায় ফিরে আবার ভাত। সেই দিনের কথা ভাবলেও অবাক হয়ে যাই।’ 

মায়ের আদরে স্নেহধন্য সেই মানুষটি আজ কোটিপতি। এমনি এমনি নয়, ব্যাংক থেকে ঋণ করেও নয়, মেধা খাটিয়ে। এটাই তাঁর পুঁজি। সঙ্গে যোগ হয়েছে উদ্যম আর নিরন্তর চেষ্টা। এই দুইয়ের সমন্বয়ে গড়ে তোলেন ছোট্ট একটি খামার। একই সঙ্গে চলে কৃষিকাজ। কাজের যোগফল মিলিয়ে প্রতিবছর মুনাফা করছেন ৩৬ লাখ টাকা।

এই কোটিপতির নাম সাহিদুল ইসলাম। ডাক নাম সাঈদ। বয়স কেবল ৪০ ছুঁয়েছে। লেখাপড়া শেষে চাকরি নয়, নিজ উদ্যোগে সাহিদুলের কিছু করার স্বপ্ন গাঁথা হয় রাজধানী ঢাকায় ছাত্রজীবনে।

১৯৭৮ সালের ৮ অক্টোবর নারায়ণগঞ্জের সোনারগাঁয়ের মশুরাকান্দা গ্রামে সাহিদুলের জন্ম। গ্রামটি সোনারগাঁয়ের পানাম নগরের খুব কাছে। বাবা জহিরুল ইসলাম ও মা মনোয়ারা বেগমের চার ছেলে ও দুই মেয়ের মধ্যে সাহিদুল চতুর্থ। বাবা ছিলেন মশুরাকান্দার একটি মসজিদের ইমাম। তাঁর বাবার সংসার চালানোর সম্বল ছিল মাত্র ১৬ কাঠা জমি। তাই ছোটবেলা থেকে বেশ কষ্ট করেই পড়াশোনা করতে হতো তাঁকে। সে সময় মশুরাকান্দা গ্রামে পাকা রাস্তা ছিল না বললেই চলে। মেঠোপথ পাড়ি দিয়ে স্কুলে যেতে হতো সাহিদুলকে। স্টার মার্কসসহ প্রথম বিভাগে মাধ্যমিক পাস করেন। ভর্তি হন ঢাকার সিটি কলেজে। ১৯৯৬ সালে সিটি কলেজ থেকে প্রথম বিভাগে উচ্চমাধ্যমিক পরীক্ষায় পাস করে সুযোগ পান ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ফিন্যান্স বিভাগে। ঢাকায় থাকার সময়ই জীবনের বাঁক ঘুরে যায় সাহিদুলের। সে কথাই শনিবার নিজের গ্রামের বাড়িতে বসে এই প্রতিবেদককে জানান তিনি।

টিউশনি করে টাকা জমানো শুরু

সাহিদুল ইসলাম প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, ‘কলেজে পড়ার সময় প্রতিদিন বাড়ি থেকে মোগরাপাড়ায় হেঁটে বাসস্ট্যান্ডে আসতে হতো। দুবার বাস বদল করে প্রায় আড়াই ঘণ্টায় সিটি কলেজে যেতে হতো। ইউনিভার্সিটিতে হলে থাকিনি। কারণ হলে থাকার জন্য রাজনীতিতে জড়াতে হতো। তাই মেসে থাকতাম। কিন্তু মেসের বাড়িওয়ালাদের আচরণে খুব কষ্ট হতো। সেই ক্ষোভ থেকে প্রতিজ্ঞা করি, ঢাকায় একটি বাড়ি আমি কিনবই। তবে চাকরি করে নয়, ব্যবসা করে বাড়ি করব।’

নিজের ইচ্ছায় টাকা জমানো শুরু করেন। অসচ্ছল পরিবারে অর্থপ্রাপ্তির সুযোগ নেই। তাই উপার্জনের পথ হিসেবে বেছে নেন প্রাইভেট টিউশন। সাহিদুল বলেন, ‘বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পড়ার সময় প্রচুর টিউশনি করেছি। নিজের জন্য খুব কম টাকাই খরচ করেছি। কিন্তু টাকা জমাতাম। তৃতীয় বর্ষে পড়ার সময় জমানো টাকা দিয়ে ২০০২ সালে ১০টি গরু কিনেছিলাম। আমাদের এলাকাটি কৃষিপ্রধান। স্থানীয় লোকজনের কাছে গরুগুলো বর্গা দিই। শর্ত ছিল লালনপালন করে ঈদুল আজহার সময় বিক্রি করা হবে। লাভের তিন ভাগের দুই ভাগ কৃষকের। বাকি এক ভাগ আমার। এভাবে বেশ কিছু টাকা আয় করি।’

টিউশনি আর গরু বিক্রির টাকায় ৬ শতাংশ জমি কেনেন সাহিদুল। তিনি বলেন, ‘২০০৩ সালে অনার্স পাস করে ইন্টারনেট সার্ভিস প্রোভাইডার (আইএসপি) নামে একটি প্রতিষ্ঠানে চাকরি করি। ২০১০ সাল পর্যন্ত সেখানে চাকরি করি। যখন চাকরি ছেড়ে দিই, তখন আমার বেতন ছিল ৭০ হাজার টাকা। বেতনের টাকার বড় অংশও আমি সঞ্চয় করি। এই টাকায় গ্রামে বাবার ১৬ কাঠা জায়গায় ১৪টি গরু কিনে ছোট একটি খামার করি। ২০১১ সালে কোরবানির ঈদের শেষ দিকে হাটে গরুর বেশ দাম ছিল। সেই বছর কিছু লাভ হয়। পরের বছর আমার ৬ শতাংশ জমি বিক্রি করি সাত লাখ টাকায়। আমার পুঁজি আরও বেড়ে যায়। এভাবে প্রতিবছর গরুর সংখ্যা বাড়াতে থাকি।’

ভাগ্যের চাকা ঘুরতে থাকে সাহিদুলের

২০১৪ সাল থেকে ঈদের সময় ভারতীয় গরু আসা কমে যায়। সীমান্ত থেকে গরু আসা কমে যাওয়ায় সাহিদুল ইসলামের ভাগ্যের চাকা আরও দ্রুত ঘুরতে থাকে। তিনি জানান, ১৬ কাঠা পৈতৃক জমির পাশে তিন বিঘা জমি কিনে ফেলেন ওই সময়। সেখানে প্রায় এক শ গরু লালন-পালন করা যায়। কিন্তু শুধু গরু কিনলে চলবে না। এটি সঠিকভাবে বৈজ্ঞানিক পদ্ধতিতে লালন-পালন করা দরকার। এ জন্য গবাদিপশুর প্রচুর খাবার প্রয়োজন। গম-ভুসির দাম বেশি। পড়াশোনা করে, ইন্টারনেট ঘেঁটে ভুট্টার চাষ করা শুরু করেন। হাইব্রিড ভুট্টার চাষ করেন। এই হাইব্রিড ভুট্টা দিয়ে কর্ন সাইলেজ (গরু-ছাগলের খাদ্য) তৈরি করা হয় তাঁর খামারে।

কর্ন সাইলেজ দিয়ে নিজের গরুর খাদ্যের চাহিদা মেটান সাহিদুল ইসলাম। এখন তিনি বাণিজ্যিকভাবে কর্ন সাইলেজ উৎপাদন করে বিক্রি করছেন। সাহিদুল বলেন, প্রতিবছর ৭০টিরও বেশি গরু লালন-পালন করেন তিনি। ঈদুল আজহার প্রায় আট মাস আগে থেকে গরু সংগ্রহ করেন। ঈদ পর্যন্ত এসব গরু কিনতে ও পালন করতে ৫০ লাখ টাকা খরচ হয়। এই গরুগুলোকে খাবার হিসেবে নিজের জমির থেকে উৎপাদিত কর্ন সাইলেজ দেওয়া হয়। আবার ভুট্টা উৎপাদনে জমির সার হিসেবে এসব গরুর বর্জ্য ব্যবহার করেন। সবকিছু রিসাইক্লিং করা হয়। এ জন্য লাভের অঙ্কও বৃদ্ধি পাচ্ছে।

খামারিদের জন্য সাহিদুলের পরামর্শ হচ্ছে, খামারের কোনো খালি অংশ যেন ফেলে রাখা না হয়। পাঁচ কাঠা জমির ওপর খামার হলেও যে অংশটুকু খালি থাকে তাতে ওই খামারের গরুর জন্য হাইব্রিড ঘাসের চাষ সহজে করা যায়। জায়গা বেশি খালি থাকলে গরুর জন্য হাইব্রিড ভুট্টা তৈরি করা যায়। বছর শেষে এ থেকেও বড় অঙ্কের লাভ করা সম্ভব।

ভুট্টার পাশাপাশি হে নামের গাছ উৎপাদন করছেন সাহিদুল। কর্ন সাইলেজ ও হে খাওয়ালে গরু দ্রুত বৃদ্ধি পায়। মাংসের গুণগত মানও ভালো থাকে। তিনি বলেন, ‘কর্ন সাইলেজ ও হে খাওয়ালে দ্রুত হজম করতে পারে গরু-ছাগল। তাতে এদের শারীরিক গড়ন দ্রুত বাড়ে। মাংসে চর্বিও কম হয়। এই মাংস খেতে সুস্বাদু হয়।’

বছরে মুনাফা ৩৬ লাখ টাকা

আট বছর ধরে খামারে গরু লালন-পালন করে মাত্র একবার লোকসানের মুখে পড়েছিলেন সাহিদুল। তবে সেটি খুব কম ছিল বলে জানান। তিনি বলেন, ২০১২ সালে দেড় লাখ টাকা লোকসান হয়। তবে ২০১৫ সাল থেকে ৩০ লাখ টাকার বেশি লাভ করে আসছেন। সে সময় ২৫ বিঘা জমি লিজ নিয়েছিলেন। এই জমিতে হাইব্রিড ভুট্টার চাষ করেন। প্রতিবছর দুবার এই ভুট্টার চাষ হয়। বৃষ্টি কম হলে তিনবারও ফসল পাওয়া যায়। এই হাইব্রিড ভুট্টা থেকে কর্ন সাইলেজ পাওয়া যায়। ভুট্টাসহ গাছ কেটে পলিথিন দিয়ে ঢেকে রাখা হয়। পরে সংরক্ষণ করে কর্ন সাইলেজ তৈরি হয়। প্রতি কেজি কর্ন সাইলেজ উৎপাদনে তিন টাকা খরচ হয়। বিক্রি করেন ছয় টাকা দরে। নিজের গরুর চাহিদা মিটিয়ে প্রতিবছর ৪০০ টন কর্ন সাইলেজ দেশের বিভিন্ন খামারির কাছে বিক্রি করেন তিনি। এবার তাঁর লাভ হয়েছে ১২ লাখ টাকা।

লাভের আরও হিসাবের কথাও জানান সাহিদুল ইসলাম। বলেন, ‘আগস্ট মাসে কোরবানির ঈদের সময় ৭০টি গরু আমার খামার থেকে বিক্রি করে ১৫ লাখ টাকা মুনাফা করেছি। ২০১৭ সালেও লাভের পরিমাণ একই ছিল। এ ছাড়া প্রতি মাসে ১৫টি গরু জবাই করা হয় আমার নিজস্ব কসাইখানায়। এই মাংস বিভিন্ন সুপার শপে সরবরাহ করছি। এভাবে আরও ৭ লাখ টাকা লাভ হয়। সব মিলিয়ে ২০১৫ সাল থেকে প্রতিবছর খামার থেকে ৩৪ লাখ টাকা লাভ হয়েছে আমার। লাভের টাকায় একটি লিচুর বাগান করেছি। লিচু বিক্রি করে দুই লাখ টাকা লাভ হয়েছে। সব মিলিয়ে এখন বছরে লাভ হচ্ছে ৩৬ লাখ টাকা।’

খামারিদের কাছে সাহিদুল ‘রোল মডেল’

নিজের সাফল্যকীর্তি সবার মধ্যে ছড়িয়ে দিচ্ছেন সাহিদুল ইসলাম। তিনি জানান, খামারিদের পরামর্শ দিতে প্রতি মাসে দেশের একটি করে জেলায় যান তিনি। খামারিদের সঙ্গে কথা বলেন। কীভাবে তিনি লাভ করছেন তা অন্য খামারিদের কাছে তুলে ধরেন। তিনি বলেন, ‘অনেকে আমার কাছে আসছেন। আমি পরামর্শ দিচ্ছি। এর জন্য কোনো টাকা নিই না। আমার মনে হয়, এভাবে চললে অল্প কয়েক বছর পর বাংলাদেশ গরুর মাংস রপ্তানি করতে পারবে। তাই আমি ভবিষ্যৎ ভাবনা নতুন করে শুরু করেছি। সেটি হলো, নিজের খামারে গরুর প্রজনন কাজ শুরু করব। এ জন্য ব্রাহমা ও শাহিওয়াল জাতের বাছুরকে বেছে নিয়েছি। এই জাতের গরু দ্রুত বড় হয়। প্রচুর মাংস পাওয়া যায়।’

বাংলাদেশ ডেইরি ফারমার্স অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের সাধারণ সম্পাদক শাহ ইমরান প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, ‘খামারিদের প্রধান খরচ হয় খাদ্যে। ৭০ শতাংশ খরচই হয় গরুর খাবারের জন্য। সাহিদুল খাবারের খরচ কমিয়ে ফেলার পদ্ধতি বের করেছেন। আমাদের সংগঠনে সাড়ে ছয় হাজার খামারি আছেন। ফেসবুকেও অসংখ্য অনুসারী রয়েছেন। সেই সব খামারির কাছে সাহিদুল রোল মডেল।’

যে স্বপ্ন নিয়ে কিছু করার জন্য উদ্যোগী হয়েছিলেন সাহিদুল, সেই স্বপ্নও পূরণ হয়েছে। ঢাকায় এখন তাঁর বাড়ি আছে। রাজধানীর মোহাম্মদপুরে তিন কাঠা জমির ওপর দোতলা বাড়ি করেছেন। স্ত্রী কামরুন্নাহার, দুই মেয়ে ও এক ছেলে নিয়ে সাহিদুলের সংসার। দুই মেয়ে সাদিয়া ইসলাম (৯) ভিকারুননিসা নূন স্কুলের তৃতীয় শ্রেণিতে ও নাদিয়া ইসলাম (৬) একই স্কুলের প্রথম শ্রেণিতে পড়ে। ছেলে মেহমেদ ইসলামের বয়স সাড়ে তিন বছর। বাবা এখন বেঁচে নেই। মা মনোয়ারা বেগম আছেন ভাইবোনের জন্য বৃক্ষছায়া হয়ে।

            হাতুড়ে ডাক্তারের কেরামতি!

আধুনিক যুগেও চলছে সনাতনী পদ্ধতিতে চিকিৎসা! পুরান ঢাকার জজ কোর্টের পেছনে হাতুড়ে চিকিৎসকেরা নিয়মিতভাবে দাঁত তোলা, ফিলিং, স্কেলিং, রেপ্লিকা তৈরিসহ সব ধরনের দাঁতের চিকিৎসা দিয়ে থাকেন। নষ্ট হওয়া পুরোনো দাঁত তোলা কিংবা নতুন দাঁত লাগানোর খরচ মাত্র ১০০ টাকা। নাম প্রকাশে অনিচ্ছুক একজন ভ্রাম্যমাণ হাতুড়ে চিকিৎসক বলেন, ‘আমার দেশের বাড়িতে এক চিকিৎসকের কাছে কাজ শিখেছিলাম। এখানে ভ্রাম্যমাণ ডেন্টাল দোকান দিয়েছি। নয়-দশ বছর হয়ে গেছে। আমার প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক শিক্ষা না থাকলেও জানি কী কী করতে হয়। আমি গর্ভবতী নারী এবং রোগীর ডায়াবেটিস থাকলে কাজ করি না। তাই কাজের ক্ষেত্রে কোনো সমস্যাও হয় না।’ কোর্ট এলাকায় আসা দরিদ্র-অসহায় লোকেরা স্বল্প খরচে চিকিৎসার জন্য এসব কথিত চিকিৎসকের শরণাপন্ন হন। এ ধরনের চিকিৎসা রোগীর জন্য ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ। কিন্তু দেখার কেউ নেই। ছবিগুলো সম্প্রতি তোলা।

৯০ বছরের বৃদ্ধাকে রাস্তায় ফেলে দিলেন স্বজনেরা ?

বয়স তাঁর প্রায় ৯০ বছর। বয়সের ভারে ক্লান্ত রাবেয়া খাতুনকে রাস্তায় ‘ফেলে দিয়েছেন’ বলে অভিযোগ উঠেছে তাঁর স্বজনদের বিরুদ্ধে। রাজধানীর মিরপুরের ৬০ ফিট সড়কের পাশে ৭ ঘণ্টা পড়ে ছিলেন এই বৃদ্ধা। এখন তাঁর ঠিকানা মিরপুরের পাইকপাড়ার ‘চাইল্ড অ্যান্ড ওল্ড এইজ কেয়ার’ নামের একটি বেসরকারি বৃদ্ধাশ্রমে।

রাবেয়া খাতুনকে চাইল্ড অ্যান্ড এইজ কেয়ারে এনেছিলেন মহসিন কবির নামের এক ব্যক্তি। তিনি আগারগাঁও প্রবীণহিতৈষী কেন্দ্রের চিকিৎসক। মহসিন কবির প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, ৩০ অক্টোবর সকালে ৬০ ফিট সড়কের আমতলী এলাকায় পড়ে ছিলেন রাবেয়া খাতুন। দুপুরের দিকে সেখান থেকে রাবেয়া খাতুনকে প্রবীণহিতৈষী কেন্দ্রে নিয়ে আসেন দুজন নারী। পরিচয়হীন কাউকে এই হিতৈষী কেন্দ্রে রাখা হয় না। তখন রাবেয়া খাতুনকে শেরেবাংলা নগর থানায় নেওয়া হয়। মহসিন কবির বলেন, ‘থানায়ও রাবেয়া খাতুনের ব্যাপারে কিছু করা সম্ভব হয়নি। তখন গাজীপুরের কাপাসিয়াসহ বিভিন্ন বৃদ্ধাশ্রমে রাবেয়া খাতুনকে ভর্তি করানোর চেষ্টা করি। তাতেও কিছু করা সম্ভব হয়নি। শেষ পর্যন্ত চাইল্ড অ্যান্ড এইজ কেয়ারে রাখা হয়।’

রাবেয়া খাতুনের বিষয়ে ফেসবুকে ভিডিও দেওয়ার পর তাঁর স্বজন পরিচয় দিয়ে কয়েকজন যোগাযোগ করেন বলে জানান মহসিন কবির। তিনি বলেন, ‘তামান্না নামের এক নারী রাবেয়া খাতুনের আত্মীয় পরিচয় দিয়ে আজ শুক্রবার বিকেলে আমাকে ফোন করেন। এখানে ওল্ড হোমে কীভাবে এলেন, তা জানতে চান। তখন বলি, যিনি হাঁটতে পারেন না, তিনি রাস্তায় পড়ে থাকলেন কীভাবে?’

চাইল্ড অ্যান্ড ওল্ড এইজ কেয়ারের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা মিলটন সমাদ্দার প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, ‘তামান্না নামের এক নারী নিজেকে একটি বেসরকারি ব্যাংকের কর্মকর্তা পরিচয় দিয়ে আমাদের এখানে এসেছিলেন। তাঁর সঙ্গে আরও কয়েকজন এসেছিলেন।’ তামান্না জানান, তিনি রাবেয়া খাতুনের ভাতিজি। কিন্তু কোনো ধরনের কাগজপত্র দেখাতে পারেননি। তা ছাড়া প্রশাসনের সাহায্য ছাড়া এখান থেকে কাউকে হস্তান্তর করা হয় না।

মিলটন সমাদ্দার বলেন, ‘এখানে আনার সময় পেটের পীড়ায় ভুগছিলেন রাবেয়া খাতুন। তিনি স্বামীর নাম তালেব আলী বলে জানিয়েছেন। মিরপুরের লালমাটিয়ার ২২ তলা গার্মেন্টস এলাকায় তাঁর বাসা। সেখান থেকে তাঁর সতিনের ছেলেরা রাস্তায় ফেলে রেখে যান—এমন কথাই রাবেয়া খাতুন আমাদের বলেছেন। মনে হয় বেশ সচ্ছল পরিবারের মানুষ তিনি। তবে রাবেয়া খাতুন এখনো শারীরিকভাবে খুবই অসুস্থ। বিছানা থেকে উঠতে পারেন না। রাবেয়া খাতুনকে আমাদের ওল্ড হোমের নিজস্ব চিকিৎসককে দেখানো হয়েছে। তাঁর মাথা ও শরীরে বেশ ব্যথা রয়েছে।’

এদিকে রাবেয়া খাতুনের আত্মীয় পরিচয়দানকারী তামান্নার সঙ্গে প্রথম আলো থেকে মুঠোফোনে যোগাযোগের চেষ্টা করা হয়। কিন্তু তিনি তা রিসিভ করেননি।

Chairman Board of Trustees expressed his firm determination and said ‘Dhaka International University will continue to maintain its high academic standard for which it has been acclaimed both at home and abroad over the past several years and continue to contribute in its nation building endeavor.’

Professor Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed, Hon’ble President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor, DIU presided over the ceremony. Justice Nimuddin, graced the occasion as Convocation Speaker. Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT), DIU & Prof. Dr. Nurul Momen, Vice-Chancellor, DIU spoke on the occasion.

Professor Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed, Hon’ble President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor, DIU extended his heartiest congratulations and felicitations to all graduating students and wished them very successful career and accomplished life. He also thanked the Authority of the University for imparting quality education for the students from the very beginning.

The Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) was founded by the Dhaka Ahsania Mission in 1995. Dhaka Ahsania Mission is a non-profit voluntary organization in Bangladesh. The Mission was established in 1958 by Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah, an outstanding educationist and social reformer of undivided India.
